santa baby

well santa has arrived at my flat. kind of. all of these gifts are for others, not me! ...pretty much for kiddos. which is what christmas is all about. i luv gift giving to kiddos! it's so fun.

i can't believe i already have all my gifts wrapped. usually, i am wrapping on christmas eve at my rents house. not this year, i poured a glass of vino & began the wrapping marathon. only took a couple hours or was it more like a couple bottles of vino? hmmm.

happy holidays all! may your christmas be ruffly & lacy.

2 long, but not 2 late

sad, but true it's been over two months since my last post. nothing like going through these spurts of sometimes blogging to sometimes not. i guess that just goes to show how uninteresting my days have been in the last couple of months; or has it been? maybe it's been incredibly interesting and busy that i haven't had time to type down some creative words and blog?!

what has ruffles & lace been up to?

how i heart flowers

it's such a great treat to have fresh flowers around my flat. i truly enjoy sprusing-up the place with them. there's just something about the ambiance that makes me smile. the color, the lifeness, the vibe; it's sincere.

you can find some great deals around town too to do this. a very cost-effective decoration tactic that will make you happy and lacey daily.

here is a recent find of mine. some very vibrant mums. found them @ the local target for $4.99 believe it or not -- just another example of how you can truly find anything you need @ tar-jay.

another terrific place i enjoy getting my fresh flowers from is whole foods.

now, onward to water the ruffles & lace mums.

not a lacey finish

i did it! i actually did it. i ran (well @ the end shuffled) a 1/2 marathon ... 13.1 miles to be exact.

wow! that's all i can say about that. wow! what a great accomplishment & now i think i might be addicted. i'm totally ready for next year's race; however, that's a whole year away, so in the meantime i am finding many races to run in. possibly the omaha 1/2 marathon, but we'll see.

so if you ever think for one minute you can't do something &/or you're not a runner. you are! believe me as i was honestly never a long-distance runner. just a sprinter. i could run the bases in softball in no time flat (in my younger years of course), but catching me running longer than a mile was obsolete, so on that note. anybody can run 13.1 miles if i can. i promise.

i remember looking back after i crossed the finish line on the 50-yard line of Go Big Red stadium & this is what i saw. a HUGE stadium with a beautiful blue sky. what a so-real image.

these great nike tenny runners helped me succeed a very amazing accomplishment.

30 & flirty never felt so good!

maybe next year i'll break out some ruffles & lace to accompany the tennies.

13 miles worth of ruffles

well here it be. it's here & coming to fruition. the BIG 1/2 marathon "race" this sunday, 5/2.

i thought this day would never come -- or i should say i hoped i was only dreaming when i signed up for this almost four months ago. during that time it sounded like a good idea; however, as the "race" nears & i see the trail map...i begin to re-think my decision-making skills. am i really a good decision-maker? was this a good strategy to keep me in shape? i just don't know, but i will say that i think this will all turn out a.okay. it's great to set goals & accomplish them...well assuming i will accomplish this goal as sunday isn't quit here yet, but i am optimistic.

at any rate, i am proud that i can look back [n the near future of course] & say that i "ran" a 1/2 marathon when i was 30-years old. not too many peeps can say that. now, "run" might be an understatement, but i'll report back & let you know how it all turns out. until sunday, the ruffles & lace will be M.I.A.

i am looking really forward to crossing the finish line @ the 50-yard line of good 'ole Tom Osborne field. i'll feel like a real athlete.

until sunday,

eccentric headboard

Just thought I would share my homemade headboard (all from scraps in the garage at our home) that my extremely talented father completed for me. It turned out amazing!

I do have to give my mother mama Donna props for brainstorming the length idea ...as it is wider than my bed; which I like. Makes it very fun & eccentric.

I wanted to paint it white, but yet again...parents know best & suggested the dark stain & varnish. I will have to agree with them on this one as painting it white would have ruined the vibe.

Thanks so much rents for all your great work & talents. I am very blessed & lucky to have parents like you!

xoxoxo,
your ruffly

Curvaceous

No need to worry about shedding those curves away. They're in and it's
time to [continue] to embrace them. Beautiful, sexy, healthy curves;

almost 4 months 2 long

ah, ha. i do remember how to type! i can't believe that it's almost been four months since i last did a little creative writing. well, there's no time the present. so...it's time to put on "pen and paper" what has happened since november '09. a handful of new things have come to fruition.

December '09
: believe it or not, but i moved again. i know, you're thinking NO WAY! get outta town! and that's what i decided to do.
  • i will admit it; i was a bit homesick. yes, homesick of the good 'ole midwest. can you believe that? who would be homesick of this? the cold, the snow? one would think the ocean, sun, beach and very importantly...THE amazing shopping in Cali would never make me homesick or want to move away from that fab life, but life is a full-circle. you (or most) always come back to home-sweet-home as there's no place like home.
  • i have such amazing friends and family here in NE [i heart u all!], there was no reason for me to be so far away from them. i was missing out on all that was going on here and the beach didn't provide that sense of fulfillment.
  • my amazing dad flew out to sunny San Diego (it was 80 degrees when he landed!) and we packed-up the Jetta for the LOOOOONG 1,500 mile roadtrip back home. packed house.
  • i even had room for my super cute beach cruiser. i couldn't leave that behind! there is still a lot of me that luvs sunny Cali and i feel this beach cruiser craze will make its way here to the good 'ole midwest; eventually. might just take a few years, but i'll be ready!
  • so, we made it home just in time for the wonderful snow to start falling...and falling...and kept falling. we were even snowed in; in a town of 900 peeps. i was going stir crazy, but my fam is the best and we made the most of this snowy weather.
  • then my bro turns 21. happy bday brother. i'm so glad i could be home for it. i had a blast, but i think you might have had a better blast!
January '10: Happy New Year! i celebrated new year's with some of my amazing friends. it was so nice to be back home. this is when my new luv for champagne started. i forgot how refreshing it tastes ;)
  • i also headed back to another part of where i used to call home; KC. we went there to do some final touches on ms joj's wedding. it was so fun to be there together again -- the triplets back in town! it was great to see all our KC friends and make sure the nightlife was still how we left it = fun. such a great weekend.
  • this is the month that i decided it was time for me to do something BIG; like run a marathon or i should say a 1/2 marathon. i will start with that and maybe build to the full...pending my status when i finish the 1/2. i know i can do it as i luv to workout, but running isn't always a past-time i find fun. i luv playing sports and going to organized classes such as pilates and such; however, running for 13 straight miles in ONE DAY. yes, a big challenge, but i am optimistic. i can do it! what a great new's year goal and a great thing to accomplish when turning the 30 is the new 20 age. i'll keep you posted on how this turns out.
February '10: Well here it is, the bday and luv day month. for some reason, i really heart this month ;) i wonder way?! this was a big year for ms ruffles & lace. i like to call it flirty thirty vs. dirty thirty. yup, this was the BIG year; the BIG 3-0. i was actually really looking forward to turning 30. such a great year and a perfect timing in my life. the time where i am ready to be home and settle down. you can totally tell by these pictures that times have settled down. haha

March '10
: here we are, we are now up-to-date. since the month has just started, i don't have tons of exciting stuff to write about. just the excitement of ruffles & lace moving into her new place this weekend. it will be great! i luv to entertain and have friends over all the time. plus, my new place has four outdoor pools. it will be sweet and THE place to hang all summer long. you'll know where to find ruffles & lace come May to September; yup, pool side!

so, until next time. thanks for reading and i promise the next post will not be a mile long. new goal = blog more often and keep it short and simple. there is pool time to be had!

until summer comes,
